My students come from all over the world- Guatemala, Mexico, Egypt, Africa are just a few. My students are from poverty-stricken areas around the world. They come with very little and don’t have basic necessities at home or at school. As a teacher, I know that learning will not take place until their basic needs are met. My students work very hard and try their best at school even when things are tough! They truly are great students with a bright future.
My Project
My project is something I've been wanting to do for a long time. My students are from high poverty areas. They often come to school without the things they need and lack resources at home. I want to build a basic needs closet where they can come to me to get things they need at home or at school. I plan to stock up on items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, deodorant, etc. to supply to my students as needed. I've learned as a teacher that learning doesn't take place until a child's basic needs are met. I want to provide a place where they can come to me to receive what they need in confidence and know that the are loved!
