Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students love to learn, they thrive when developing and applying new skills, and they are resilient. We are an urban, low-income district, and the majority of our students come from hardworking immigrant families, many of whom speak a language other than English at home. Every student has access to the books, resources, and opportunities in our elementary library media center, where they can explore topics that interest them and participate in learning experiences that motivate them!

3D Printing has become a popular center in our Library Makerspace this year -- the items I am requesting will organize and protect our printer and filament, and enhance the center so more students can have access to 3D printing and design.

The printer stand will create a safe place for our printer and spools of filament; the dryer box, silica beads and humidity gauge will ensure that our filament lasts; and the tools will be used to help students finalize their 3D printed projects.

Our Library Makerspace provides opportunities for students to engage in hands-on discovery, invention, and understanding, as they apply and investigate scientific concepts and skills, address real-life problems with creative thinking, and use technology in innovative ways to solve problems.

During 3D Printing elective classes and center time, students learn how to bring their ideas to life as 3D-printed models. They learn how to apply the design process of imagining, designing, creating, and revising to improve their design techniques, and they learn how to improve from mistakes and failures.

Our amazing library media center and maker space serve 2000+ students in four schools. As I continue to cultivate it into a 21st-century library media center and learning hub where students can collaborate and learn, I am constantly working to update the materials and resources that students have access to!
