Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

At CHCS, all of our middle school students have the opportunity to come to the library for open-access periods during recess. These open-access library periods have become a popular option, during which students can work on homework, read, play board games, and craft together in a collaborative environment. Though students love having access to crafting supplies and board games, our library doesn't get additional funding to purchase these supplies.

Supporting our maker space and board game corner ensures students continue to have access to supplies that foster creativity, give students a chance to problem-solve together, and have fun.

As a bilingual school where most of our students are students learning English as a New Language, this space also allows students to learn and practice English in a safe and supportive environment. Many of our students are Newcomer students who have been living in the United States for less than a year, and 100% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch, so this donation supports students in need. Library open access periods are open to all middle school students, so every middle school student in our school benefits from this support.
