Photography is an important part of life. As an area of study, it offers students the chance to apply cross-curricular skills to create something that is both aesthetically pleasing and exciting! Creating a photography/videography studio at LJHS will give students the chance to practice multiple areas of study, including, obviously, art, but also the less-obvious science of controlling and manipulating light and the mathematics of geometry and angles and their relation to shadows and the camera. Currently, students have nothing more than a simple, cheap softbox as their studio experience. While this provides them with a rudimentary understanding of light manipulation, it is nowhere near what is used in real-world studio applications. The goal of this project is to provide students with the materials needed to build a small but effective studio to manipulate and control light to create professional-level portraits.
The following is a breakdown of what each requested item will be used for:
Godox Flash Trigger: This device sits on top of the camera and tells the flash strobes to fire when the camera's shutter button is pressed.
Godox Strobe Kit: This is the heart of the operation. This light provides a low-powered modeling light and a high powered flash. This light provides the critical lighting for a studio portrait.
Stage Light: This light is necessary for both videography and journalism applications. Without it, there won't be enough ambient light to maintain proper camera exposures in the studio setting.
