Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a Kindergarten teacher that's in need of new toys for my students. These toys will encourage my students to show responsibility, creativity, problem solving and team work.

I have been a classroom teacher for over 20 years and have toys that once belonged to my own kids, or given to me by teachers who have retired.

The toys are old and the kids could use new items.

Many of the students at my school do not have learning toys at home, and it's their first opportunity to build a castle along with other kids. The last few years I have had students that are non-verbal for many different reasons. Playing a game or building something as a team is a great way to get them to connect and begin to speak.

I feel we need to get back to the basics and give kids time to explore and learn to talk to each other. It always amazes me to see what kids can build and how they work with one another. This is such a big learning opportunity for all students.

I am convinced that these learning toys are fun and essential in kindergarten.
