My Students

I have students from many backgrounds of culture, families, and of course - learning abilities. Typically students with learning differences is below 30% of the general classroom. The upcoming year will have a number closer to 40% of the class with an IEP or other specialized learning program. The families in our community rely on our school to support the student's academic and social/emotional growth. We, the teachers and staff, know that the two areas of learning are not distinct from each other. Students with strong emotional and social supports are better in academic areas of school. Students with strong academic skills, need the balance of social and emotional learning to sustain and apply their learning through the years. My projects are designed to offer better opportunities for students in my school for learning and growing over time.

My Project

Materials such as fractions tiles and pattern blocks allow students to access the math content where they are. Base Ten Blocks and number tiles provide opportunity for discovery and project-based learning. Money concepts require repeated practice and opportunity to manipulate as we connect disciplines within the broader topic. Classrooms typically have fewer tangible materials available in the upper grades. Students can still have a great benefit from these materials to deepen understanding. I am a new teacher in this roll and do not have the curated collection of a typical veteran teacher. Help me to create a classroom full of students that love math!
