This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students today are bombarded with technology and media - TV, movies, computers, video games - but often lack exposure to quality, educational technology. A subscription to BrainPOP Jr. can change that!

I am privileged to teach 30 first graders in an inner-city school in Illinois.

All of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch, and most are English Language Learners who speak Spanish at home. Despite challenges in our school's neighborhood, my students are inquisitive and love to learn.

My Project

BrainPOP Jr. is a website that contains hundreds of short videos on a variety of topics, such as matter, telling time, and Martin Luther King, Jr. With a subscription to this website, our class could view videos as part of whole-group lessons, and students could watch videos individually or in small groups to complete independent research. The videos on BrainPOP Jr. are created to be kid-friendly and support English language development. Students who may struggle to read a text because they lack vocabulary or strong decoding skills can watch a video on their topic of inquiry and learn alongside their peers.

will benefit my students by making content more comprehensible, building vocabulary, and engaging them during self-directed inquiry projects. Your generosity will empower my young learners!
