Build and Graph Slopes

Help me give my students the AngLegs Classroom Kit to construct triangles and see how angle measures are related to side lengths. The dry erase boards will grids will allow kids to easily plot and corect slopes.

My Students

I teach algebra and geometry to ninth and tenth grade students in a small, rural school district. Many students come from lower economic backgrounds and some qualify for free and reduced lunches. Most students are well behaved and parents are supportive of education. Each class has a few students with special needs. People take care of the school and each other.

Providing my students with manipulatives such as geometric peg boards and sticks will help them discover ideas and retain knowledge.

Students will see for themselves how changes to slope, angles and side lengths, affect figures. Building a strong foundation in algebra and geometry will help students be successful in upper-level math and science classes.

My Project

Kids love assembling shapes and seeing for themselves how changing measurements affects the relationships between sides and angles. Constructing lines and plotting slopes do not seem like work when students are in groups and enjoying the interactions. They are eager to move through activities and answer analysis questions.

As a teacher, I love to watch my geometry students teach each other and discover beautiful properties of various shapes!

Kids love to work with manipulatives and graph on dry erase boards. Sitting in seats and listening to lectures is not an ideal learning experience. The learning tools I am requesting create an interactive lesson and that is a win for me!
