My Project

The students I work with in Speech/Language therapy struggle to read. They are missing fundamental foundational skills and struggle with letter-sound correspondence. Without a strong foundation in letter sounds, my students have difficulty reading. The Sounds Sensible Kit will provide my students with direct, explicit and systematic instruction to gain the necessary foundational skills to learn to read.

Despite multiple challenges, my students come to their speech and language therapy sessions determined to learn.

They never give up and want to learn to read.

Students need to master skills in phonological awareness before they can start to decode words and then comprehend what they read. Phonological awareness is a fundamental skill that students need to master before decoding and encoding words.

This program is multi-sensory and incorporates hands-on manipulatives which is useful for children with speech/language delays/disorders.
