Help Ms. Povey

My Students

Our high school focuses on reading and literacy in every class. To help my students build their technical reading skills and to develop their excitement and curiosity for science, we need current popular science books at a variety of levels.

My students are amazing, creative, energetic freshmen.

They are eager to understand and engage with the world around them. Approximately 70% of my students are at or below poverty level, so school is the best place for them to find interesting reading resources.

My Project

We do sustained reading weekly, to help students develop their focus and attention span. Last year, they quickly went through the 10 science books I have in my library. We need more content to keep their minds engaged! The books I have also target lower-level readers. This grant includes a number of great books for low-level readers, and it adds some books for high-level readers. For all the students who ask me when they get to study quantum physics, I want to hand them a copy of Brief History of Time.

Building a set of science-specific texts, with a variety of subjects and reading levels, is the best way to increase my students' love of reading and of science.

Your donation will directly go to students who are learning.
