Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are creative, inquisitive, and thoughtful. I work at a Title I school, and many of my students face challenging circumstances. Despite challenges, my students come in ready and eager to learn every day.

My students are avid readers and buzz with excitement when they get the opportunity to start a new book.

When asked why they like to read, my students responded that “reading gives them an opportunity to go on different adventures and ‘travel’ to different places.” Their love for reading is truly admirable, and I want to continue to help foster their passion for literacy.

My Project

A strong classroom library is key in fostering students’ love of reading. I have selected all the books for this project based on my students’ interests and cultural backgrounds. I know my students will be excited to read the new additions to our library.

Helping my students foster a love for reading is vital in developing life-long readers and learners.

Having strong literacy skills will not only make my students grow academically, but it will also help them grow personally. My students will read these books during reading workshop in the classroom. They will also take the books to continue reading at home. This is particularly important for students who might not have access to books at home. They will use these books to apply the different reading strategies we are learning in class. They will also use these books to have important conversations about social and world issues.
