This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"The important thing in science is not so much to obtain new facts as to discover new ways of thinking about them," William Bragg, Sr. said, and what better way for students to develop that new way but through observing living and non-living objects through a microscope.

My 4th and 5th grade students come from a low socio-economic area of Texas.

They come to school with few to no prior experiences in their life, often without things as basic as school supplies. Many have not even gone further than the next town, much less experienced the use of science tools like microscopes.

My Project

Microscopes are one way to open the eyes of my students, to see that there is more than what they initially observe. They would also help my students to achieve scientific investigation and build reasoning skills. The students will learn how to use this tool as a method to conduct science inquiry, and how to collect, record, and analyze information gathered from microscopes.

My students crave knowledge, and they love to use the two basic microscopes that we have, even though they do not work well.

They would greatly appreciate several much better quality microscopes to use and share, to help them be more prepared for higher level sciences in middle school. Thank you very much!
