Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazing! They impress me everyday with their inquisitiveness, their compassion, and their desire to learn. They come to school each day ready to try new things. My school is located in a low-income neighborhood in the South Bronx, and 93% of the student population is eligible for free or reduced price lunch. My classroom is a shining example of the diversity that makes NYC great. In addition, I co-teach a classroom of students with mixed learning abilities.

Though all my students bring their desire to grow as students and people to the classroom, the methods through which they learn best are greatly varied and unique.

I want my students to be excited about STEM and see a world in which they play a part in mathematics and technology for careers. In my math classroom, I strive to give my students the tools they will need to be successful in high school, college, and career. This includes highly engaging, interactive, and differentiated presentations. For this reason, my students need a projector and a projector screen.

My Project

Each day, students are exposed to presentations in the math classroom. The visual aspect, especially in a subject like math, greatly benefits the differently abled learners in my co-taught class. My classroom has only one whiteboard at the front of the room, so all 30 of my students must use this during the delivery of the lesson. My students have varied learning abilities, and the addition of a projector and screen to my classroom would allow me to work with smaller groups of students while still delivering high quality instruction and exposing them to engaging presentations, videos, and images that will help them better understand the content. Many of my students enter the classroom at least one grade-level behind. My co-teacher and are working to bridge this gap.

The projector and screen would be used to show students videos, accompany math problems with images and graphics, and facilitate interactive learning.

With the aid of a projector and projector screen, I will be able to work with my students in small and alternative groupings AND get to use technology to expose them to the same resources as their peers. This project will help enrich my student's experience in the math classroom and better prepare them for high school and college level math.
