My Students

I am an art teacher at Mosaic Prep Academy in New York, NY. I love my job, and my students most of all. The smile on their faces when they create unique and beautiful works of art is priceless! There is no greater joy than seeing things lit up in color as our scholars' study and recreate the greats such as Jackson Pollock, Piet Mondrian, and Laurel Burch, to name a few. Imagine what the world would be like if these artists did not have the tools they needed to create such beautiful and timeless pieces.

During this COVID-19 pandemic, our budding artists are seeing the reality of a world without color because they simply don’t have the supplies at home.

We are a Title I school, which means that the majority of our students are coming from an economically disadvantaged home. Many can’t even afford the much-needed supplies due to the financial burdens their families are facing. To ask our scholars to draw without pencils and paper, color without crayons and create without basic supplies is unfathomable. Our scholars are deserving of so much more!

My Project

Our wonderful parents are doing all that they can to provide meaningful art opportunities to their children, but as their supplies have run out and money has gotten tight, they are at a standstill. Awesome parents are getting creative and are using old envelopes as drawing paper and making “paint” from things rich in colors such as spinach and blueberries.

We really need your help to bring color back to our budding artists' lives.

They deserve to see things in color. This is why we are in dire need of crayons, paints, markers, pencils and construction paper. They have projects such as Mondrian style paintings or making maracas which require tape, glue and sketchbooks. They also need to have composition notebooks in order to record their responses to the artwork they are seeing. They deserve to have a way to express themselves during these trying times. Art has been proven to be not only fun for children but therapeutic as well.

Please take a look at the list of supplies needed. We will coordinate a way to get the supplies to them. We sincerely thank you for all that you are able to donate to our deserving scholars. Know that you will undoubtedly make a difference in the lives of not only our children but our entire community here at Mosaic Prep Academy.
