Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are curious about the world around them. They enjoy using their imaginations and creativity in their learning. Throughout the year students work hard to reach their potential.

They learn how to see things from the perspective of a scientist, an engineer, a writer, an artist, a historian, and a mathematician.

They attend an inner city school in Southern California. Most students come from families with limited resources and limited formal education. Unfortunately, our school budget keeps dwindling every year. This limits the materials students have at their disposal to make learning come to life. Despite this, students enjoy coming to school and having fun while learning.

My Project

I am asking for art supplies including crayons, markers, pencils, and sharpeners so they can use art to communicate their ideas. My students will create still life drawings as well as abstract artwork in which they will explore line, value and the use of color to create different moods and shapes. We will be using Jazz music as inspiration to create drawings. Students will learn about Henri Matisse and how he used Jazz to create his artwork. They will also view Piet Mondrian's artwork to learn about the use of line, color and shape.

Through the process of creativity, students learn from each other as they share their illustrations to receive constructive feedback from their peers.

This process builds a sense of community in the classroom, as well as provides another form of expression for children. At the end of the year, they will be creating an art exhibit and inviting their parents and peers to view it. With your help it will be a success.
