My Project

At the best of times, there are always people who need help in the world. Right here in our local community we have individuals who suffer from food scarcity and regularly get their meals from soup kitchens and other local meal providers. Often those meals are very utilitarian and perhaps bland. My students have expressed a desire to help those who suffer from hunger this year. With this project, my students would like to cook brownies on a regular basis so they can provide them to these food kitchens, adding a bit of sweet to the day of these individuals who rarely have luxuries like this one. Our campus has student kitchens, so my students will be able to book those spaces for regular baking after school hours, with my adult supervision.

Helping our students understand the concepts of empathy and compassion is vital to their emotional growth and maturity, and we are always looking for ways to help them understand that.

The brownie mixes I am requesting will help my students get headed in the right direction. They will then be able to focus on meeting the needs of others rather than figuring out how to fund the ingredients for their service idea. The motto at my school is "Making Kindness Normal" and with this project, I hope to instill in my high school students the truth that everyone needs a little help sometimes and that we must care for each other. Making a difference begins with just one action, and they have the choice whether or not to be a person who makes a difference in the lives of others. Please help them get the supplies they need to make that happen!
