Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students at our school are very eclectic with many personalities and endeavors. They are primarily Carribean and African decent, and are bright and ready to take on the world!

They are currently in the highest poverty area of New York City (South Bronx) and do not deserve to be at a disadvantage to kids in boroughs like Manhattan just because of where they live.

These students are very bright and could hang with many students from different areas. In addition, with COVID and the dismantling of sorts it has done to all of our lives, this has made things that much more difficult. Thank you for your consideration!

My Project

South Bronx Students are often forced to study and learn from sources that are often chosen for them. In addition, they are also forced into a box of learning that they may not fit in to. This eclectic selection of books has options that they can relate to, but also from a large selection of backgrounds.

Too often, children of color are forced to read books that they either don't want to read or can't connect with; they should get the same opportunity as those who live in other areas to pick books they want to read!

This project will fund a "free reading selection" station in a Global History classroom.
