Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Our school works hard to ensure that students enter its doors with welcoming arms, and leave with knowledge of their strengths, worth, and potential. One of the most valuable things about my classroom is its diversity of learners. I serve students from a variety of backgrounds and cultures; over 70% of our students are English Language Learners. In the 7th grade English Language Arts and Reading classroom, students tackle rigorous coursework, share honest experiences, relate to the authors, and hone their written communication skills.
My Project
In the 2020-2021 academic year, our school piloted a curriculum centered around novels. It increased student engagement across the board, and we are proud to continue this work in the 2021-2022 school year. I look forward to teaching Inside Out & Back Again by Thanhha Lai for many reasons: it is beautifully written in verse, it deals with themes of family, immigration, and growing up, and it takes place in a time and place our students might not have much knowledge about.
The items on this list will ensure my students have access to all the materials they will need to develop as learners and leaders.
I want to make sure they can have personal copies of the novels we read that they can use both inside and outside of the classroom.
During the lingering effects of the global pandemic on public education, it is more important than ever to ensure students have access to materials. Having individual copies of Inside Out and Back Again will help my students broaden their horizons and explore various literary elements.
