Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a special education elementary school teacher in a Title I school, my goal for this project is to make my students’ learning more engaging, provide visual supports in the classroom environment, and differentiate instruction using this printer. This year, I will be teaching in a new Horizon program that specializes in the educational needs of students with Autism providing them with authentic color and graphic representations to incorporate into their daily routines and curriculum. This can only be accomplished using a color printer which is not readily accessible currently.

One way I want to do this is by creating centers that will make it fun by using characters or subjects that are of high interest to my students.

This will make the learning process fun and more motivating for them to learn the curriculum. For example, I would make game boards or file folder games in vibrant graphics and color.

My students can also use this printer for writing and creating stories. I know how challenging writing can be with children, in general. It is even more of struggle for students with learning disabilities. My students who struggle with expressing their ideas on paper will be able to use technology to type or dictate their stories and print them along with images or illustrations via storyboards and various applications or platforms like Canva.

So, having access to a color printer within my classroom, will ease some of the learning struggles my students may encounter, give them a different lens from which to learn, and make learning engaging.

A color printer will be like a rainbow that leads my students to the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
