My Students

Our students are often products of generational struggles they cannot readily comprehend. My students are now learning in households where there is more than one student using a laptop to access their school work. As a motivator, I created an incentive to encourage my students to continue logging onto the classroom portal to finish the school year strong. I told them that if they completed their writing project that I will have a surprise sent to their houses at the end of the school year.

Currently, I have students writing pieces they have been working on throughout the school year.

I purchased t-shirts for my students as a part of their surprise.

Teaching in these uncharted times I find myself having to create motivators to keep my students encouraged during this time of virtual learning. My students want to learn, but are often distracted by external stimuli and circumstances beyond their control.The reality is that our schools is situated in a poverty-stricken, crime-ridden neighborhood.

My Project

My amazing students have experienced many obstacles but are determined to continue their writing projects. My scholars would benefit from having a Cricut Maker and a start up kit to bring their words and stories to life. This project will allow students to create memorabilia t-shirts to bring their words to life with their illustrations.

The students will create novel designs based on their own books they have written.

One of this year's focus is on writing and what a good way to have students express themselves through illustrations. As I teach students to bring their stories to life, I can focus on visualization. In addition, I will challenge students to illustrate what they have learned about themselves during the pandemic. Students will send their designs to me via email and I will use the Cricut maker and the vinyl to create t-shirts with their designs.
