My Project

The novel, Wonder, by R.J. Palacio, is extraordinary. Students get to see life through the perspective of Auggie Pullman, a fifth-grader who has a facial deformity, experiencing school for the first time. This sweet, hero of a character faces cruel bullying by his peers, and ultimately, the kindness of new friends. It truly is a come-of-age story that can have a tremendously positive impact on students and how they relate to one another.

I want to share this novel with all of my sixth-graders in my English Language Arts classroom.

Starting middle school can be a tough transition and, now more than ever, students need to build their empathy skills. Wonder is a phenomenal text that encourages kids, no matter who they are or where they come from, to choose kindness.
