This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is located in the Soundview/Clason Point section of the Bronx. We are considered a Title I school, due to the fact that many of the students are considered to be in low socioeconomic backgrounds and qualify for free lunch.

The students in our school have an affinity for Science as it gives them the opportunity to work with their hands and collaborate with their peers.

Furthermore, it is one of the few subject areas where kids of all academic ability are able to have equal success.

My kids are special because they do not allow their circumstances to dictate the success that they have in school. They come prepared to learn and can be often found still working on their projects long after the period has ended and it's time to transition to their next class.

My Project

Why is water important in a science classroom.

Having a portable sink in a Science classroom is an essential component for the total Science experience.

Water is often used in the science classroom. It is important because it teaches students about cleanliness and the importance of washing their hands before and after certain experiments.

In addition, a portable sink will afford the students the opportunity to clean up quickly instead of having to leave the classroom and use the sink in the bathroom. The two portable sinks we are asking for will help reinforce the importance of safety, save on prep and clean up time thereby giving the students more time to conduct experiments and work collaboratively on projects and experiments.
