This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a Performing Arts special education teacher in New York City! Many of the students in my school are diagnosed with severe Autism and are in the most restrictive learning environments. There are many students who also require health and behavioral para professionals to assist them in completing basic human functions like feeding and diapering in addition to being a huge influence in their learning program.

When providing rigorous curriculum, despite their disabilities, each and everyone of my students rises to the challenge and exceeds not only my expectations, but also their own.

My students are passionate about music and dancing, and play time in the playground!

My Project

This project to bring theatre arts materials to my school will help me to create and develop performing arts programming for roughly 150 students with disabilities in New York City! This is a very exciting opportunity for them, especially since they have not had the opportunity to learn theatre arts before! My students will read about and engage in storytelling thru puppetry, dance, music, visual arts, and dramatic play. The goal is for each student to develop individual confidence by engaging in theatre arts activities that also help them to develop social skills, language and communication skills, and physical development. The students will work collaboratively with their peers to create a final performance piece that will be performed on stage!
