Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students need a computer to help us facilitate in-class activities for the Accelerated Math Program.

My students come from a low income community in the Bronx, where they have scarce resources.

Despite the needs, they are a very highly motivated and excited to learn when the use of advanced technology, such as computers, are incorporated in learning. It is a necessity for them to have access of technology in school because some of my students don’t have one of their own. As an effort to incorporate technology the school has adopted an excellent program called Accelerated Math.

My Project

The item we are requesting is a netbook. This computer will be used to help run Accelerated Math. Accelerated Math is a program that is online. It is used to help differentiate work for the students, so that all of their levels/needs are met. The program assigns students objectives based on state standards and provides a constant stream of new objectives. It is a great resource for prepping for standardized test expectations, as well as learning tailored to each student's level. With this said, it requires the students to scan a score card hooked up to the computer and printer. Therefore, having a computer that its only responsibility is to run this program will help to ensure it is done without any interruptions.

My project is very important because right now my personal computer is being used, which is slow and often times freezes the program.

With a computer that is used for Accelerated Math only, it will make the program run more efficiently, and the students' valuable time can be better utilized for learning rather than waiting for a slow computer to load programs.
