Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are excited to learn. They are predominantly Hispanic and are from low-income families. I know how hard their mommas and papas work to provide their kids with the very best they can. I service students from fifth-eighth grade with speech and language needs. My caseload of students is very diversified. I work with students identified with Down’s syndrome, intellectual disabilities, autism, articulation delayed, language delayed, and stuttering. My students love electronics and socializing.

My Project

My students would use the Osmo to integrate speech-goals into therapy as well as in their regular classrooms. They will use the "Words" app to incorporate their individual articulation targets as well as spelling words through independent and partner work. I will be able to help them feel more connected during virtual learning as well as be able to use the system when they are back in the classroom. Using photographs taken around the school we can create novel libraries that incorporate the school environment as seen through the student's eyes. The "Tanagrams" app would allow students to target following directions as well as allowing the students to practice speech sounds in a naturalistic environment. The "Masterpiece" app would be used to illustrate student-created therapy materials and they could use this to expand upon language skills, create task cards, and create student illustrated strategy posters and artwork to talk about. The "Pizza" app would allow students to not only practice basic math skills but learn how to express themselves in a socially appropriate manner during interactions in a store environment.
