My Students

My students are creative, caring, and very energetic. Our classroom is a hands-on learning community. I work with children that are 4 and 5 years-old. Their ability to love learning excites me to find new and exciting ways to teach things to them. They love to learn about new things. They love to look about pictures and talk about them. They love to look and ask many questions about things they have seen on the playground. Our school is a preschool-third grade building and is part of one of the largest urban school districts in my state. All of the students attending in our district receive free lunch and are living at or below the poverty line.

My Project

Many of my students come to school without knowing the joy of reading. I read to my students everyday and I want to provide them with props that will help change this.

With the requested puppets and storytelling kits, my students will get excited to hear their favorite stories because they know they will get to use the pieces and puppets retell the story.

No longer will the students be just sitting and listening to the story, but now they will have a chance to engage in the story. Students can let their puppet come to life during the correct portion of the story, or they can retell the story at the table. These items will help with developing reading and language skills that they will need for the rest of their lives.
