Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Imagine stepping into a classroom where English comes alive through interactive storytelling, hands-on activities, and collaborative projects. For my English 1 and ELL students, mastering language and literature is not just about reading and writing; it’s about experiencing the power of communication in real-world contexts. My students come from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds, and many face challenges that make traditional learning methods less effective. To help them excel, I aim to create an environment where they can actively engage in experiential learning, where they learn by doing—through project-based activities that combine creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork.

The specific items I’m requesting will make a tremendous difference in their learning by providing them with the tools to engage in experiential learning.

The art supplies, microphones, presentation boards, and headphones will support various hands-on activities that allow students to immerse themselves in the content. Whether they are building visual storytelling projects, recording their own narratives, or engaging in collaborative learning through audio resources, these materials will enable students to experience the lesson in dynamic and interactive ways. These tools will help bridge the gap between theoretical learning and real-world application, empowering students to make connections between their academic work and the world around them.

The goals for this project are to foster creativity, build language proficiency, and develop critical thinking skills through experiential learning. Through hands-on, project-based work, students will learn to collaborate, enhance their comprehension of literature, and engage with the cultural contexts within their studies.

What makes my students special is their resilience and enthusiasm for learning despite the challenges they face. They bring a wealth of diverse experiences and perspectives to the classroom. These materials will provide them the opportunity to engage in meaningful experiential learning, helping them discover their voices, celebrate their identities, and achieve academic success.
