My Students

The students at my school come from a diverse community. Our goal as a community and staff is to immerse students in the different cultures that our students come from. We have a large ELL population and we know it is important that they learn English, but also keep their home language strong, too.

The 1st grade students are hardworking, respectful and willing to try difficult tasks in order to achieve a set goal.

Our school serves students K-5 and provides a well rounded education. All the teachers strive to do what they can and will take extra steps to help their students. About 37% of the students are on free or reduced lunch.

My Project

I have requested multiple types of STEM building activities for the classroom. Every week in first grade we give students an opportunity to chose activities that they want to do with their classmates. This give students an opportunity to learn from each other. We have minimal building activities and need more in the classroom so students have more choice. Students will engage in their learning and will be excited about doing activities with their classmates. These STEM activities will allow students to use their imagination and create things that they may have never thought that they could create. Students don't have the opportunity to create as much as they used to, however these materials give the students the opportunity to think outside of the box.
