Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I work with students who have speech or language impairments. I see students from Pre-K through 4th grade in a high poverty area. I work with them improve their speech and language for better success academically and in life!
My students thrive when I can provide interesting and engaging therapy materials.
My students are working on a variety of speech and language goals and have a variety of needs. They work best when therapy can be interactive, fun, and as personalized! I love to watch their faces light up when they enjoy an activity or have an "aha" moment thanks to engaging therapy. Their tenacity and determination to improve their communication gives me hope.
My Project
During the COVID-19 pandemic, my students would use the iPad and Osmo to integrate speech-language centers into virtual therapy. Once it is safe to return to face to face therapy, they could use a variety of articulation and language apps to incorporate their individualized speech therapy targets through independent or partner work. We can take photographs of items/actions throughout our school and home environments that contain target articulation sounds or language concepts, creating novel libraries that incorporate our school and home environments as seen though student eyes. The students could use the "Tangrams" app to target following directions as well as position goals as they communicate with the group during its use. The "Masterpiece" app would be used to illustrate student created therapy materials that they could use to expand upon language skills, create task cards, and create student illustrated strategy posters and artwork for display.
