This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school's vision is to lead boys toward a realization of their innate strong character – boys who are family oriented, community conscious, and globally aware. Through a firm foundation of intellectual and academic diligence, our students are equipped to meet and exceed the expectations of challenging middle and high school environments and are eager and determined to pursue college education.

I never dreamed after retiring from a successful 32 year teaching career that I would fall in love with a group of students again.

It began innocently enough, I volunteered twice a week. Soon, I couldn't wait to get there on my volunteer days. My boys are all low income and mostly minority. Their lives are rough, but everyday they show up with a smile. When the school asked if I would consider coming out of retirement - I didn't even ask the salary!

One day I had my boys finish the sentence, "I wish my teacher knew" and their answers broke my heart. Many said they wanted to do their homework but couldn't because they had no pencil, or no one would help them. My boys want to SHINE, we provide that opportunity!

My Project

These materials will be used by all grade levels 2-5 (we are a small school) to help bring science alive. Generation Genius will help me bring real life science to the classroom in a way that will be meaningful and exciting. Generation Genius comes highly recommended by other colleagues. I cannot wait to introduce it to my boys.

Technology is not something my boys have access to at home, so offering Generation Genius to them in the classroom will be very exciting.

Also, students at home will have access to what we are experiencing in class.
