This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students have inspired me with their willingness to read and recite lines from Romeo and Juliet. They are willing to stand in front of their peers and be vulnerable as they present a scene or lines in their own way. Reading Shakespeare can be a challenge for anyone, let alone high school students. Having students act out select scenes can help bring the meaning, story, characters, and plot to life for students in the classroom. This helps students read and recite their lines with appropriate understanding and emphasis, as well as actions while they are "on stage." This helps not only the performers, but those students who are watching their classmates perform as well. I assign parts for each student to perform with their groups.

These costumes will encourage students to engage more fully with the text and their characters in Romeo and Juliet.

These costumes will also enhance their experience of reading and performing Romeo and Juliet parts in the classroom and therefore enhance their overall experience of learning about Shakespeare.
