Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember what it felt like the first time something reached out, grabbed your attention, and made you excited to learn? Help me capture my students and build their content knowledge, vocabulary, and skills in the areas of reading, math, and science.

The students in my classroom are amazing, fabulous, hardworking kids who all have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder.

In addition to having Autism, all the students in my classroom have limited or no verbal communication and are in the process of learning how to use an Augmentative Alternative Communication device or system. My classroom is a district level program designed to meet the unique learning needs of students with Autism who have limited or no verbal language and are at the beginning stages of learning how to communicate in other ways. The students in my classroom have endless potential; however, to tap into their potential they needs to be instructed using highly engaging hands-on materials and curriculum. Materials and curriculum that capture their attention and allow them to manipulate and play with the subject gives them the opportunity not only to learn but also to display gains they are making in subject areas such as math and science.

My Project

The materials I have requested will allow me to incorporate our Promethean board into content areas such as math, science, and reading. These software programs from Lakeshore will increase opportunities for students to generalize and enhance their understanding in these core content areas. The Calendar Math, Beginning Operations Adventures Activities, and Counting Skills Games CD will allow students to explore concepts such as numeric operations, number patterns, problem solving, and money. This will provide multiple hands-on opportunities for students expand their knowledge and deepen their understanding of these concepts. The Plants Activities and Weather & Seasons Activities CD will allow students develop their knowledge, vocabulary, and skills in the area of science while aligning instruction to the Common Core State Standards and meeting their individual educational needs. The Language Fun Factory Games and Leveled Nonfiction Readers will allow students to increase reading skills.

Donating to this project will allow me to provide my current students and students for years to come with interactive and engaging materials.

These software programs will allow me to incorporate the technology currently available to my students to meet their individual educational needs and address Common Core State Standards. They will increase engagement and motivation for my students while decreasing challenging behaviors and continue to foster and build a love of learning for my students.
