My Students

My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. My students are all different types of learners and have various backgrounds. I have students who do not speak English, students with disabilities, and some students who are homeless.

I teach at a Title I school in New York where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.

Many of my students receive food and clothing from the school's charity drives. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.

My Project

My students and I have been coming to school, in person, everyday since September and it has been great and also a challenge at the same time. My fourth graders are usually very social, however this pandemic has taken out some of the classroom fun. Students are socially distant and since they are wearing masks, it's difficult for them to talk and hear each other. I want to bring some fun back into the classroom and create an opportunity to socialize in a safe way around plants.

I will want each student to plant their own pot of flowers in the classroom and watch it grow overtime; it will make the student excited to come to school everyday to see their plants growth and spark a lot of conversation.

This would bring a lot of joy and conversation about who's plant is growing faster and why. It will also teach them the science of plant growth and hopefully inspire some green thumbs.
