My Project

My classroom consists of special education students, grades 2-3. The students in my classroom are students with learning and emotional needs. A learning environment for a child with special needs should focus on presenting the material in a variety of ways.

My students require many different strategies to help them learn new information, including lessons that include visual, tactile, kinesthetic, and auditory teaching, large and small group work, and individual attention.

In my classroom, students work on their own levels, at their own pace.

The materials I am requesting will provide a classroom environment suitable to encourage imagination and learning. They reinforce skills students know and introduce new material that they need, all while teaching them to work independently. My nonverbal students need multi modality materials. For example, items such as the Magnetic Write easel will provide visual support; playdough for sensory and tactile abilities to spend during a lesson; puzzles reinforce spatial relations and fine motor coordination. The timer helps students with behavioral management skills. For example, it allows a visual and audio cue to transition to and from activities. As a special education teacher, I know how important it is to provide my students with a variety of resources to help them learn. The TPT gift card will allow me to download supplemental resources needed for my lesson. Teacher Pay Teachers provides many adapted activities, which are perfect for the students' In addition, the cleaning supplies will help keep these tactile resources in a clean state for students to use continuously.

My students require a lot of hands-on learning as well. Hands-on manipulatives are a critical learning tool for students in all classrooms. For example, students can physically investigate a math problem to find a solution. Manipulatives help make an abstract idea a concrete concept.
