My Project

I am seeking funding for two large touch-screen TVs to transform our language-learning classrooms into an immersive, interactive learning environment. These touch-screen displays will allow students to engage with authentic materials, collaborate on language activities, and practice speaking, listening, reading, and writing in innovative ways.

Learning a language is most effective when students are immersed in it.

This means that language learners must be challenged to participate actively in their learning. By displaying learning materials on a large-screen TV, rather than on students' individual Chromebooks, my students will be encouraged to purposefully engage in communicative activities with me and their peers. Language learning requires interaction! A large-screen TV will allow me to present learning experiences to students to complete together, rather than alone - just as a language should be learned.

Language learning also includes learning about another way of life. Having large touch-screen TVs in our language learning classrooms will allow for our students to engage with authentic materials, participate in immersive virtual field trips, and communicate collectively with French-speaking students from around the world.

This technology will also allow us to incorporate differentiated instruction, catering to students with different learning styles. Visual learners can benefit from multimedia resources, auditory learners can improve their pronunciation with speech-recognition tools, and kinesthetic learners can interact directly with the touchscreen to complete language exercises.
