My Students

You can read it and listen to it, but actually seeing it brings it to life! My goal is to bring to life the materials my students learn in language arts, social studies, and reading classes.

My students attend our alternative school and are in 7th and 8th grade.

Most of my students attend our school for behavior reasons, and work toward the opportunity to return to their home school throughout the year. My students are visual learners and are not the type to listen to long lectures or read long passages from a textbook. For this reason, I am always looking for ways to engage students and incorporate video components to my lessons.

My Project

Our students this year, as well as students in future school years, will use the requested videos, including Of Mice and Men, The Kite Runner and a Vincent Price collection to connect reading, language arts, and social studies concepts to real-world situations. Students will compare and contrast information from the textbook and online to information from movies. Students will write character studies, book reports, and create projects using the information learned from these videos. Videos are a great way to capture the interest of our students as we show them the connection from textbook to real life.

By donating videos and a DVD player to my classroom, you will allow my students to see social studies and novels in action.

Students will make the connection between what they have read and what they see. You will help me engage students and build their curiosity in the world around them.
