My Students

"Can I go book shopping?" is the question students continue to ask a teacher every week. I would love for my students to continue loving books and to always be excited for the next one they are about to read. This can be tricky when our library lacks the variety and quantity of books they need.

To the children of our school in Queens, school is one of their favorite places.

They know that when they come to school they will learn and they will be loved. They are empathetic, kindhearted, and determined young individuals. They learn these qualities from their peers, teachers, and even the books they indulge in. Our school provides these children with the skills they need in order to succeed in middle school, high school, and in life. We place a heavy importance on literacy, doing our absolute best to raise their reading and writing skills. Our students make this easy for us because of how much they love reading books. They cannot wait to get their hands-on the next new book!

My Project

With new books, students will get excited again after a year that has turned their lives upside down. Walking into a new classroom with new books will spark so much joy in our young readers.

Students will get their eyes and minds into books with characters that resemble themselves and those of their peers.

They will be able to engage in books that get them to step into the shoes of characters of all races and ethnic backgrounds.

Supporting our classroom library will not only help students get back into a love of reading but will continue to challenge them as humans and begin to see the world through other perspectives.
