My Project

Social distancing and remote learning due to COVID-19 have impacted my students' opportunities to develop deep conceptual understandings of algebraic concepts because students were unable to use concrete materials to model algebraic concepts. Students need opportunities to make sense of mathematical concepts both concretely and visually before moving to abstract, equation-based calculations. I am requesting algebra tiles, a visual, area-based model that represents variables and constants, to teach a variety of algebraic concepts. In addition, I am requesting graphing whiteboards so students can focus on representing the mathematics rather than on drawing coordinate grids when graphing.
