Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The characteristics of my students learning are both ethnic and cultural, we blend computer science with literacy to make students think about the bridges they are building in their communities. As part of our STEAM initiative, this class explores computer science, technologies and Literacies. It is a blended environment as students work online and in class. Because of the diverse linguistic, cultural norms and expectations, I used concrete materials to assist students in grasping concepts in computer science to connect to their STEAM classes. They have build Binary Machines and Sound sensors that work on Aurdino. CodeBot is a natural extension of this work. Many of my students do not speak English in their communities, so having them understand coding and computing makes them leaders in their communities. They are a joy to teach and a challenge with diverse cultural needs and possibilities for the future.

My Project

With access to a IDE with python my students will create projects and learn concepts for careers in Technology and Engineering. In this hands-on way they will learn the basics of Python programming by completing maker-oriented projects using Firia Labs’ innovative IDE CodeSpace platform to brings these physical computing devices to life. They will learn a Industrial Standard Language that is used on commercial projects and be ready for computer science careers. All the Python code they write to control their robot in the simulator will run on real-world applications.
