My Students

Reading is where the magic happens in our classroom! Some of my students have not yet discovered books that capture their imaginations. This could be the year that magic happens and they fall in love with books. My students love hearing chapter books read aloud to them!

My students are a group of 19 eager-to-learn second graders.

Most of my students come from low-income, single-parent homes. They attend a large, rural elementary school near the coast of South Carolina. Despite coming from less than perfect homes, I try to make my students time at school an enjoyable one where they learn a great deal in a fun way.

My Project

Books can help open doors for my students that they would never be able to open otherwise. My students love hearing me read a chapter book aloud to them each day. I do not have many chapter books in our classroom as I have been teaching kindergarten and first grade prior to this year. I have discovered that my students are so excited to hear this books that interest them but that they may not able to yet read on their own. Each day I hear my students say, "Please read another chapter!" I am so glad to hear them so excited about reading but now they need more books to hear read aloud to them.

By having new chapter books added to our classroom library, my students will be able to hear stories read aloud to them they have never heard before.

This will open up all new doors in their imaginations. I would love for you to help bring the magic of reading to our 2nd grade classroom!
