My Students

Each year I have the pleasure of welcoming 15 capable, inquisitive, adventurous, and playful 3-, and almost 3-year-old, children into my 3K for All classroom. For many, this is their first experience in a school setting so my classroom is their "home" away from home.

My incoming 3-, and almost 3-year-old students have likely spent nearly half of their entire lives - yep, that's approximately 18 months - tucked away at home due to the COVID-19 virus.

This is profound! One can only imagine, the trauma and "loss" of vital, healthy early childhood experiences they have endured. How many opportunities have they really had to play outdoors, explore, and interact with other children, extended family, and other trusted adults? We 3K for All teachers have our work cut out for us, and I am certainly up for the challenge. Please keep reading to hear how you can help.

My Project

The books (The Rabbit Listened, Playing and Learning Together, Playing and Learning Together - Kate is so SO Mad!, Same, Same but Different, The Tree in Me, Meeting Mimi: A Story About Different Abilities, Marisol McDonald Doesn't Match/Marisol McDonald no combina, Boxitects, Sam Sorts, and The Katha Chest) will speak directly to the social-emotional needs of the diverse children in my classroom.

I can't wait to sit with each one of my students to listen to them talk about their families, interests, and feelings, and witness the growth and joy of learning that will come from your donation of these visuals and play materials.

They will begin learning to regulate their own feelings by identifying with the characters in the aforementioned books; see their families reflected in the Diverse Smiling Faces From Around the World Posters, and develop an awareness of our world by fitting countries onto the Learning Resources 3-D Puzzle Globe. All will be displayed with care around our classroom, to create a classroom culture in which they can feel safe and secure. Guess what?! 3-year olds LOVE rainbows and building and stacking! The colorful Wooden Rainbow Stacking Game/Geometry Building Blocks and the Arch and Tunnel Set will appeal to these interests while encouraging them to explore art, math, and science concepts. And, they will gain confidence too!

The countless hours of learning and creativity your donation will provide is proof positive of the value and joy found in PLAY. Rest assured that you will be helping each of my students develop an awareness of who they and their peers are and setting them up for success in 3K, Pre-K, Kindergarten, and beyond.
