My Students

Our inner city school has been suffering from years of budget cuts, especially in the arts. After a generous donation of guitars, we are proudly offering our school's first music elective this year, the 'School of Rock' Guitar Class! To keep the class going, we need new strings, picks and tuners.

Our guitar school students love music!

They are so excited to take part in their first school music class. Most have never played a musical instrument before and they're eager and willing to put in the time and effort to practice. We serve students at an inner city public school, where the arts are precious. We've even attracted students to our after school Guitar Club from local nearby high schools, who come over in the afternoons to visit and learn.

My Project

For many of my students, music gives their life meaning. For many students, the chance to learn an instrument and play some of their favorite songs is a dream come true. We've had several performances for parents and school community members this year, and the response has been very positive. By purchasing basic supplies like strings, tuners and picks, we're able to keep the guitars maintained. These supplies have previously been coming out of my own pocket. Also, by helping us provide USB microphones, we'll be recording our students' performances, using GarageBand on our classroom computers.

We've teamed up with an after-school program with the high school next door, so now we're serving students from three different high schools.
