This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My Freshman students are curious, creative, and eager to learn. They thrive on hands-on experiences that bring literature to life. All of them come from diverse backgrounds and face challenges that make accessing school supplies and books extremely difficult. Despite these obstacles, they are passionate about learning, performing, and engaging with classic literature.

My Project

To truly experience A Midsummer Night’s Dream, my 40 students need their own copies of the play to annotate and keep as a lasting memory of their journey into Shakespeare. In addition, Shakespearean props and Commedia Del’Arte masks and costume pieces will allow them to embody the characters and perform for their peers, making the words of Shakespeare leap off the page. We would ultimately like to perform the play for the other students in the school, so lumber, canvas and paint would be beyond our wildest dreams.

Beyond our theater experience, we need classroom basics—pens, pencils, post-it notes and colorful cardstock—to support daily learning and creativity. These supplies will not only help with our Shakespeare project but will also be invaluable for writing assignments, interactive activities, and artistic projects throughout the year.

Why This Matters

Engaging with Shakespeare in a meaningful way fosters confidence, public speaking skills, and a lifelong love of literature. By helping us secure books, props, and essential supplies, you are empowering students to connect with a timeless classic while developing critical reading and performance skills.
