This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have the best job in the world because I get to work with 4-5-year-olds from diverse backgrounds in a neighborhood public school pre-K classroom. Some of my students have never been to school before. They've been taken care of by well-meaning family members, but lack school readiness skills such as fine motor, socialization, basic mathematics, and exposure to science and technology. It concerns me when students arrive at my door without the age-appropriate vocabulary to express their wants and needs.

My Project

In our Pre-K classroom, we currently have 2 computers that are over 11 years old. These outdated, slow, and ineffective computers are not capable of running the current software needed to implement the Waterford program. Waterford is a daily computer program required by our district for PK students to help prepare them for kindergarten. We recently had to say goodbye to a third computer that just gave up after 12 years of service.

New computers are desperately needed in my classroom so that my students can successfully and accurately finish their daily Waterford assignments in a timely manner.

Waterford helps reinforce objectives taught throughout the week and helps prepare them for the Flickers assessment and i-Ready program that are both done on a computer with a computer mouse.
