My Project

My kindergarten learners do best when they learn through play. Play is the natural and most efficient way that children learn about the world around them. In recent years, kindergarten has veered away from being a place of discovery and imagination. The emphasis has been on teaching literacy and numeracy through explicit instruction and paper or computer based practice.

Let’s bring play back to kindergarten!

With these materials, I will create engaging centers for the students to choose during free choice time. They will learn math concepts by making pizzas, measuring ingredients, and making change at their play store. They will learn vocabulary while ordering an ice cream and playing construction on pretend roads. They will interact with their peers in a way that a workbook page or worksheet does not allow. All of the items in my cart will help to create a robust play to learn environment in my classroom.
