My Students

I am a kindergarten teacher who teaches 26 curious, enthusiastic students. My students represent a variety of cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. My school gets very little funding from the district, and almost everything for our classroom is funded by kind parents, generous donors, and myself.

The excitement that lights my students’ faces when they learn something new is a constant inspiration for my teaching.

My students enjoy interactive experiences, and their participation strengthens their learning. We are in distance learning, which makes it much more challenging to engage kindergartners. It is my goal to engage and excite them to learn, both virtually and when we're together.

My Project

Since my kindergarteners are learning from home with the distance learning model, it is going to be difficult for them to socialize with their peers and be away from their parents once we return, even if we participate in a hybrid model. I want to have individual game packs that each of my students can use but also safely play with other students. These packs will have frisbee discs, bubbles, hacky sacks, ribbons, and Play-Doh. There will also be ring toss and corn hole that they can use with a few students at a time.

The games, Quixx, Beat That, and dominoes, are a fun way to keep the classroom engaging, while building students' social, leadership, citizenship, and math skills.

There are a different sets of dominoes that I think will be perfect. There are twelve foam sets of double six dominoes so my students can play with a partner, and strengthen their math skills at the same time.

The friction cars will be perfect as we study push/pull forces in science, and they can use them to test their ramps as well as investigate the motion of the cars. With the glue, we will make bouncy balls. I will also send the paintbrushes home with the students so we can do art projects during distance learning.

The speakers are for me to attach to my home computer so I can hear my students better while we are on our daily Zoom meetings. The tripod and mount will help me record videos to share with my students while we are in distance learning, and the students will use it once we get back into the classroom. They often like to record themselves reading stories, their journals, or acting out a puppet show out, and the tripod will help them do this.
