I don't just teach music: I teach CHILDREN through music.
In my music classroom, I teach children to become creative problem solvers through the study and creation of the arts!
I am the only music teacher in my PreK-5th grade school, so, on any given day, I teach 4-year-olds through my young adult 11 year-olds. I teach show choir, general music, and band. My school is in a sweet, rural southern town with no traffic light but a LOT of heart. The students in my school come from our town and also from the slightly larger town next to us, as we house the county's English Language Learner program. Many of my students come from low socio-economic situations, so providing the materials they need to succeed is really important for their futures.
In my classroom, we prioritize singing, dancing, playing, and creating with JOY to become humans who can participate in the music of our culture and creative problem solvers who will tackle our country's biggest problems as adults. My students have the potential to change the world... with just a little help from YOU!
My Project
As an Orff trained teacher, I help my students sing, say, dance, and play their way to a full, diverse music education!
Playing our Orff instruments is one of my students’ favorite ways to learn!
We need a new bass xylophone to add to our Orff ensemble. Not only will this give us the deep bass voice we crave, but it will also help move us to one instrument per student. In this time of social distancing, sharing is NOT caring, and we need enough instruments to keep apart! My students will learn form, melody, accompaniment, improvisation, and so much more with this instrument, as well as developing skills that lead to literacy, reading fluency, and a deeper understanding of history and culture.
