The Utica High School theatre department caters to roughly 50 kids who dedicate their time during and after school to bringing fine arts (in the form of theatre) to their school. The students involved in this program have created a home for themselves abundant with talent and love for each other. These students work extremely hard to put a quality production onto the stage of UHS.
By being a part of this program, students learn valuable things, such as public speaking, teamwork, appreciation for the arts, and management skills.
These students are very deserving of everything that they have accomplished.
My Project
The students of the Utica High School Theatre Department are known for putting on fantastic performances. Unfortunately, this year we lost 4 lighting instruments. The ones we have in our facility are over 15 years old. Parts are no longer available to fix them. Over the past 3 years we have had many burn out. Unfortunately the challenge to lighting shows has become extremely difficult. We are currently in production of our spring musical Camp Rock, and the amount of instruments we have will not adequately light the show.
The instruments that we have been losing are used to front light the stage and are absolutely essential to putting on a show.
Without them, the audience would have a pretty tough time seeing our actor's amazing work. Over the past 3 years, we have lost 10-15 lights. Since theses lights are so old and we cannot purchase parts to fix them, they must be entirely replaced and each instrument runs at about $360 a piece. After the most current lights blew out, we got three quotes to estimate approximately how much twelve new lights would cost, the answer was $4,554.
Obviously, this is a tremendous amount of money, and having to pay for them in full by ourselves would put us in a very tricky situation. A situation where we may not be able to have such a successful department.
