Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As the year has started, I had the opportunity to meet and get to know such an amazing group of kids. I co-teach in an ICT 1st-grade classroom of 26 amazing students in the Bronx.

In my class, there are all types of learners, but the majority love visuals.

I try to include various activities in my lesson plans that will support their learning. I want my students to become more experienced in writing, reading, math, science, social studies by continuing to practice their skills in rigorous and challenging ways as the school year goes by. I also want my students to be exposed to all types of technology.

My Project

A Document Camera will bring light to our students' eyes. It would be such an amazing addition to our classroom because my students will be able to see the big picture. Throughout the day students are engaged in small group activities, turn and talk conversations and whole group discussions. During whole group instructions for math, I always share with the student's examples of the problem using manipulatives. I like for each student to see the example so I pass it around the room. The use of a document camera will save time in our math lessons and students will get to see the example all at once.

A document camera will be useful in all lessons.

During writing, my students will be able to look over their work as we check for corrections together. I can model to the students using a document camera and then give them the chance to check their work using my model as a resource. During a reading lesson, they can follow as I read by looking at the pictures and the words. Instead of waiting for me to read and then show the pictures.
