My Project

Students learn better through hands-on learning. In science classes this is essential. For the upcoming units, we will be taking a tour of marine animal phyla, beginning with the simplest: the Poriferans. With these supplies, students will handle, examine, and manipulate artifacts from three different phyla, learning the characteristics of these ocean organisms.

Although I catch (and release) most of the animals we work with in class, these seastars, jellies, and sponges are examples of critters I can't catch nearby.

They will examine spicules under microscopes for identification, compare body form of cnidarians, and investigate the special adaptations of echinoderms for locomotion. I don't shy away from crawling through muck for our sandworms and bloodworms, nor our mollusks, but I can't find these fellas easily. With these supplies, my students touch and see the adaptations that these invertebrates have.

This is why I am asking for your assistance in purchasing these materials for my lovely kids. They're so enthusiastic when we get to work with actual organisms.
